On wednesday night, I was in London. The snow had cleared and I would stood outside the Electric Ballroom in Camden, waiting to see Amanda Palmer. It was surreal, to say the least. A week ago I had no idea I would be going, and up until that exact point, even after arriving in London King's Cross, I still believed there would be some sort of divine intervention that would mean I wouldn't be there. There were people in masks, gliding up and down the queue, handing out playing cards, jelly babies, monopoly money. I'd forgotten how wonderful bubbles are. They were floating in there herds over our heads and disappearing into the sky above camden.
At seven, the doors opened. Andrew O'Neil opened the show, and was hilarious, followed by Detektiv Byran, who were amazing. I'd never seen a band like that play, once again, the word of the night is surreal.
Once the stage was set, the lights went down. Then on to the audience. Audience was definitly singular, throughout the show. We looked around as one in confusion and anticipation. Members of the Danger Ensemble walked into the audience, striking poses and standing still amidst the crowds. We were sharing bubbles with the people stood in front of us, catching them and blowing them and popping them. It was friendly.
Then, on the stage, Amanda appeared, she bowed, and we roared.
The show was ethereal, surreal, amazing and more then I even expected. My expectations were high. She covered Tegan and Sara's "Like O, Like H", which was great. And the song I'm listening to, which was funny, but not quite as funny as Oasis in minor. I nearly passed out, and missed Have To Drive, but hearing it was more than enough.
After the show, I met her. She's softer in real life, compared to some of her photos, and considerate. I'm tempted to say loving.
Over all, it was one of the best nights of my life so far, and missing the last train home, and taking thirteen hours to get back home, made the phrase of the night "It was worth it".
Singing Tegan and Sara and Blue October in Stevenage train station is perfect to raise moral.
Photos will be posted.
